Eyeliner pt. 2
We’ve discussed the various styles of eyeliner now let’s talk about how shape and color determine the “look” being achieved. Many wome smudge their eyeliner a little in the outer corner to soften the look and give the appearance of larger eyes! Some women have the ends/tails slightly extended for the same reason. One may admire the look of a more squared-off tail while another loves the soft taper of a slight upward slant.
The placement of eyeliner can help too close-set eyes appear wider apart, help protruding eyes appear set back and more oval, while deep set eyes need to be accentuated and lightened.
Color choices are diverse as well. Blue eyes will not necessarily look best with a blue liner. Gray may be a better choice for eyes with a gray/blue cast. For older clients, a softer color, such as a brown or soft charcoal may be the answer. Colors can be used in tandem to create custom looks such as the appearance of eye shadow. Gentle blends of colors, starting with a deeper tone at the base of the lashes and fading to a softer color is another possibility.
It’s the proper placement and color choice that makes cosmetic liners so visually enhancing!
Eyeliner pt. 1
Q. Recently I have been hearing more and more about Permanent Eyeliner. I am intrigued but I am not always comfortable wearing a lot of eyeliner. Are there different types?

A. Eyeliner should enhance and define the shape of the eye, give lift, and make the whites of the eye look whiter & clearer. It should make the eyelashes appear thicker & fuller while creating a more youthful appearance. Just like traditional make-up, the application can be as subtle or more pronounced with permanent cosmetics. Lash enhancements are the most natural way to get more color in the lash line area without appearing like a harsh line. It just causes the eye to stand out a little more. For those who don’t want the bother of applying eyeliner day after day or want freedom from those mid afternoon “raccoon eyes,” more color and width can be achieved eliminating the need to use pencils and liquid liners. To summarize, Permanent Eyeliner allows the eyes to be “Enhanced,” with color and shape whether it be very conservative or more dramatic. More about the variety of eyeliners next time.....
What is Areola Simulation?
Q. I’ve recently undergone reconstructive breast surgery and my doctor suggested
Areola Simulation. What exactly is that? Will my insurance pay for it?

A. Areola simulation is the process of “simulating” or creating an areola/nipple through repigmentation. This may be necessary following breast surgery such as; lumpectomy, unilateral or bilateral mastectomy, breast augmentation or areola
enlargement. Areola color can now be restored. Sometimes following a mastectomy, a woman and her physician may opt not to graft a nipple. Unfortunately this often results in a less than satisfactory appearance for many women. However, a truly artistic and skilled technician can create the appearance of a 3-dimensional nipple, even where none exists. The difference can be a dramatic and reaffirming boost for a woman’s self esteem.
Then again, clients may also come to us for purely cosmetic reasons not related to post surgical; to add color, width and definition for example. Here too the resulting personal fulfillment can be extraordinary.

Many insurance providers will cover the expense of repigmentation as part of your post surgical reconstruction process. The Woman’s Health and Cancer Rights Act (WHCRA) SIGNED INTO LAW ON October 21
st, 1998 mandates insurance coverage for surgery and reconstruction following a mastectomy. Contact your insurance provider for more information.
Over tweezed eyebrows?
Q. I’m getting tired of having to constantly pencil in my over tweezed eyebrows. Can permanent cosmetics help me?

A. Absolutely! Eyebrows, one of the most important features of our face, convey a wide range of emotion and frame our eyes. A beautifully shaped brow not only “shows off” our eyes, but offers the advantage of taking years off our appearance by opening up the area between the lower eyelid and the brow, helping us to look more awake and rested. (Almost like a mini face lift!) Unfortunately eyebrow hairs have very shallow follicles and repeated tweezing or waxing may often mean irreversible hair loss.

Permanent Enhancements© replaces lost form and color through our micropigmentation process, (also known as intradermal cosmetics).
Feather-like strokes of color expertly blend with existing hair resulting in a soft, natural look. We can even shape an entirely new brow where no hair exists at all. By applying color into the dermal layer of the skin we create a long lasting “permanent” beauty that will not wash or smear off.
